Nomos, Narrative, and Nephi: Legal Interpretation in the Book of Mormon

چکیده
Abstract The Book of Mormon helped launch one America's most successful religions, and millions around the world accept it as scripture. It is thus more influential books to have been published in United States. Ironically, precisely because its role founding Mormonism, text has often ignored. Recently, however, begun attract attention scholars whose interest goes beyond either religious devotion or academic study Mormonism. Rather, they look a literary creation own right. This article brings this new approach into dialogue with legal theory Robert Cover. In so doing, breaks ground law literature shows how close reading reveals subtle debate about nature rule following that intersects contemporary discussions theory. These narratives illustrate an important feature what we might call phenomenology experience, namely way which carries within itself—rightly wrongly—claims transcendence.
